I’ve been in New York City for nearly 3 years now. The tourist stuff hasn’t been high on my to-do list. They all seem like something I can get around to anytime, so I’ve been procrastinating. However, this past weekend I finally went to the top of the Empire State Building. The most important tip is spend the extra money for an express pass. The express pass is a must! I’m following several of my favorite celebrities on Twitter. After all, that’s the one true point of Twitter, isn’t it? Unfortunately, this sometimes means I’m let down by their online behavior. Usually it’s nothing major. Seth MacFarlane cracks a stupid joke. Jason Alexander references something of his that isn’t Seinfeld. Stephen Fry says something too Britishy for me to understand. As anyone familiar with the Internet knows, there are many ways to waste your time on it. However, only an elite few know that the best time waster is Reddit. With thousands upon millions upon billions of eyeballs glued to the constantly-crashing site, one might become curious about the value of advertising placed on this interesting things aggregator. Just last night, I called bullshit on US bloggers. Several self-proclaimed news sites reported on this same story about China launching a “Communist Twitter”. For some strange reason, not a single one of these sites (Engadget included, which posted another pointless replica today) included a link to the site in question. That left me wondering if this supposed “Red Microblog” truly existed. The Internets have been all atwitter lately with a rumor that China has released a “communist version of Twitter”. Unfortunately, no sources were included in the articles. Is this just crappy journalism or a fabricated story altogether? Doing some research into Chinese microblogging, I came across a fantastic little site called fanfou.com. I always hear accusations that women don’t make as much money as men. “Women get paid seventy cents for every dollar a man gets paid for the SAME job!” I don’t see why they hired the woman in the first place if they already had someone doing that job.
